L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Joey Tierney
Joey Tierney returned to the Los Angeles runway on March 20 for the first time since 2003—this time all by herself. The former co-designer of the now-defunct Joey & T. label is back with a more classic, sophisticated look. The microminis and splashy tube tops are gone, and Paris Hilton—who walked her debut show—was nowhere in sight. Tierney is still focusing on the “rock meets high society” look, but with less rock.
Her show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios featured some Victorian-inspired black lace dresses along with loungey silk suits, Chinese cheongsams and some bamboo slip dresses. Interesting matchups included a sheer lace shirt over leather sport shorts and some of her jackets, including a sleek long trench coat and a moto silhouette. Other styles included lace baby-doll dresses, rompers, cashmere turtlenecks and flared body suits.
Most of the pieces were featured in black or emerald green, and the designer mixed textures from the more delicate Chantilly lace and bamboo to more shiny silks. —Robert McAllister
