Malan Breton At Style Fashion Week
Malan Breton is back in Los Angeles.
The former Project Runway cast member produced a 29-look runway show for his Spring Summer 2016 collection at Style Fashion Week on Oct. 14. The last time Breton was in Los Angeles was more than a year ago, when he produced his Spring 2014 collection.
For the Spring Summer 2016 collection, Breton specially tailored the show for Los Angeles. It was heavy on red carpet looks. But it also gave a summary on his many projects. In addition to women’s eveningwear, there were men’s looks which ranged from tuxedos to denim and underwear. Also taking the stage, Breton designed eyewear made with Swarovski crystal which was reminiscent of black pearl, he said.
Breton’s women’s eveningwear was inspired by Sun Moon Lake, a place renowned for its beauty in Taiwan. The colors of the gowns were inspired by the strong oranges and magentas seen on the lake’s waters during dawns. Other colors were inspired by the lake’s mists.
For silhouettes, the eveningwear went for an hourglass shapes, and many of the gowns featured corsetry to build a shape. He described the corsetry as unique, with a 19th century meets 1950s construction. But the gowns also offer an ease of movement. “ I was a dancer growing up,” Breton said. “I understand the importance of clothing that moves with you.”
Other silhouettes featured “baby doll” dresses. “I’m big on giving people options and making them feel beautiful ,” he said. “Not only skinny people should feel beautiful.”
