Hats Off to Alakazia

There are hats and then there are HATS.

Alakazia, a Los Angeles designer who started up a hat line in 2008, fits into the second category. His colorful and wildly plumed creations graced a fashion installation on March 16 at the EM Co. boutique at 7940 W. 3rd St. Models attired in slim-fitting black leotards gave the chapeaux a more three-dimensional look as they strutted through the store with these extravagant creations atop their heads.

Alakazia was big on long feathers that gave the designs a regal look. A wild burst of off-white feathers exploded out of an off-white hat. A black hat was graced with long black and green feathers that shot out at a horizontal angle. Shorter feathers on a gold hat kept the look more modest.

Alakazia has been desgning for years but only recently turned to hats for his latest artistic outlet. He must get his talent from his mother, who was a millner for 45 years.
