Kanarek Launches Jake of Hollywood
Jonathan Harrison Kanarek’s knack for finding choice vintage suits with pedigrees from the ’40s to the ’60s reached the notice of Esquire magazine, which honored him with its “Best-Dressed Real Men” award in 2007.
For his next act, the owner of the Everything’s Jake men’s vintage boutique in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood wanted to try something new with a retro twist. It is his own shirting label, which is called Jake of Hollywood.
The line formally debuted in January. The shirt is a 1960s-style, slim-cut, collared shirt with a French cuff featuring an open button for cuff links. The Sea Island cotton shirt is topped off with the smaller Kennedy-era collars, which must be just right for skinny ties and those retro-themed parties for Rat Pack shenanigans. “It’s a very clean look,” Kanarek said. “It can stand in for a tuxedo shirt.”
Kanarek designed Jake of Hollywood in Los Angeles, but it is manufactured in Hong Kong. It is only available at his Los Angeles boutique, Everything’s Jake, but Kanarek hopes to wholesale his shirting label later this year. It retails for $150.
