Sassower Joins Britannia Mills
Dan Sassower of New West Textiles has joined Britannia Mills Ltd. as a sales representative. He will be working with Britannia President Terrence Chermak.
“Danny and I go back a long time. He’s a terrific guy and a hard worker,” Chermak said. “I’m excited he has the line because he understands the product and the customer our product appeals to.”
Based in Los Angeles and New York, Britannia is a domestic manufacturer of knits for the moderate to high-end contemporary market. “He’s got very important knits, matte jerseys, micro Modals—all the goodies,” Sassower said.
Produced in Los Angeles, Britannia’s fabrics have European styling, New York merchandising and Los Angeles price points, Chermak said.
“We don’t make everything,” he said. “We specialize in a handful of fabrics and make everything about them better. We make real viscose matte jersey—we don’t just call it that. We have a tradition in matte jersey that goes back two generations to the real thing. We know wool. It can be cheap, horrible stuff you hate or it can be so soft that you need to be told it’s wool. We only make the best wool in the world.”
Chermak noted that Sassower’s apparel-industry contacts are complementary to his own.
“Danny is excellent for Britannia because he already knows our customer and which ones understand our product value,” Chermak said. “Britannia and Danny are like hand and glove—a perfect fit.”
As retail sales begin to pick up, so does demand for textiles—particularly domestic textiles, Chermak said.
“I’m really excited retail is doing well because that means they didn’t buy enough, and that’s good for me because I’m a domestic resource,” he said.
According to Sassower, many apparel manufacturers in California are looking for domestic textile suppliers.
“Most manufacturers have one foot in Asia and are trying to get a toehold back in the U.S.,” he said. “People want to reduce their carbon footprint. We’re finding they’re coming back.”
