ASR/Foam Bring Back the Brat Pack
The Action Sports Retailer Trade Expo and Foam magazine presented a “Breakfast Club: Return of the High School Clique”–themed fashion show Jan. 24–25 at the San Diego Convention Center. The shows, which featured Summer 2008 and Fall 2008 looks from ASR exhibitors, were divided into vignettes depicting high school stereotypes, including “Brains,” “Princesses,” “Boarders,” “Punks” and “Criminals.” Matix, which sponsored the show, featured several of its own looks on the runway.
Key looks on the runway ranged from pretty jersey dresses in sunny hues to androgynous ’80s-inspired skinny jeans and classic T-shirts. Layering dresses, T-shirts, scarves, leggings, shorts, vests and outerwear kept surf and skate staples looking fresh. Prints were played up—not in the expected Hawaiian or hibiscus-flower motifs, but rather in allover lipstick, record and paint-splatter themes. Leggings got unusual treatments, including motley acid green and black zig-zags, while denim straddled the line of ladylike high-waisted and grungy acid-wash rocker. —Erin Barajas
