Hanesbrands Consolidates in DR

Winston-Salem, N.C.–based Hanesbrands Inc. announced plans to shutter three sewing and assembly operations in Itabo, Dominican Republic, as the company pursues a plan to consolidate its sewing production into larger facilities. About 1,400 workers will be affected when Hanesbrands pulls its production from the Itabo facility in September. According to the company, all employees will receive severance pay. Over the past two years, Hanesbrands has been consolidating its production in the Dominican Republic and Central America and aligning its sewing operations around its production facilities in those regions. Hanesbrands has six sewing and intimate-apparel assembly operations in the Dominican Republic, as well as a textile-manufacturing plant in Bonao, D.R.
