L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Lorun
Lauren Wallack debuted her 9-month-old Lorun collection on March 17 on the runway during Kitten Fashion Week at The Standard Downtown. The designer attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and assisted Zac Posen for three years before returning to her native Los Angeles to launch her clothing line. Wallack was inspired by her last trip to London to design her Fall ’07 collection. She mixed the 1960s London mod look with a modern edginess. Wallack said the collection was a compilation of a lot of different things. “I don’t think it’s one major thing, but it’s a lot about new and past,” she said. The dark palette in midnight blue, black, gray and crimson included a lot of 1960s-style empire waist dresses, tailored jackets with skinny pants, and tops in silk and cashmere. “It was really important to me to find quality fabrics,” said Wallack. The collection teetered the line between masculine and feminine. Henley-style dresses resembled the casual men’s tee, and military jackets were paired with skinny jeans and chain belts. On the other end of the spectrum, Wallack created sexy mini-dresses and decorated the necklines of dresses with feminine lace trim. —N. Jayne Seward
