L.A. Fashion Week Spring '07: Ashley Paige
Swimwear designer Ashley Paige showed her new line of knit dresses alongside her sexy swimwear on Oct. 19 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif. Designed by Los Angeles designer Coco Kliks, the dresses ranged from bohemian rocker caftans to club-ready slip dresses and complemented Paige’s freespirit bikinis.
A healthy dose of black brought a bit of a Goth sensibility to the line—especially in a floor-length dress knit from wispy black yarn. Chevron stripes, embroidery, appliqueacute;s and tassels tied the dresses back to the swimwear.
Recalling the days of the sexual revolution, models in stick-straight hair and hand-knit hippie headbands wore bikinis perfect for Woodstock or a flower-child hangout. Paige’s muse for the season was Janis Joplin, the ultimate rock chick. Psychedelic shades of turquoise, fuchsia, melon, mint, teal, pink and purple kept the palette lively. Silhouettes included halter-strap bikini bottoms sometimes paired with pasties or a tube top. —Erin Barajas
