Unsheltered VI gets a Million Drops of Love
A Million Drops organization and Ramos Carreon Salon hosted “Unsheltered VI”, an event featuring art from local homeless, at-risk youth and young adults. The event took place Oct. 7 at the Los Angles hair salon, transforming it into an art gallery for the evening.
A Million Drops founder Maike Both hosted the event. She explained besides showcasing artists through non-profit events, the Los Angeles–based organization also offers outreach programs and job placement for young people in the L.A. area. In addition to necessities, A Million Drops looks to promote positive local actions. Guests at Unsheltered VI were treated to a catered buffet and a live DJ spinning throughout the evening.
All of the art was for sale and some of the artists were present to discuss their techniques and inspirations.
Speaking with the artists, you were able to get a good sense of how their art helped them survive in the world. Andrew aka “Pastel the Artist” used unique medias to create some of his pieces. He said at times, he had to use whatever materials were available at the moment such as tobacco from broken cigarettes or ink from used pens to create his message of art. Another artist, Jess Altitude Abstract, had a couple of pieces that represented what her struggles were while being pregnant. Leahcim Robinson’s art had a very calming, meditative sense to it. Her amazing burnt-wood pieces looked almost like henna tattoo art.
By the end of the evening, just about every piece was sold. Congratulations!
