Jakarta-born designer Anniesa Hasibuan took inspiration from her birthplace for her latest collection, shown on Sept. 12 at New York Fashion Week.

Hasibuan’s show, held at NYFW: The Shows in The Dock at Moynihan Station, was filled with luxe, layered eveningwear looks in shades of pink, blue and gold. Each model’s look was topped with a hijab, the traditional head scarf worn by many Muslim women.

According to the designer, Jakarta’s diverse indigenous tribes and international residents inspired the collection, which featured coats, joggers, tunics and beaded kimonos, some made with batik printing techniques, heavy beading and embroidery.

The show was held in partnership with Indonesia Fashion Gallery, the New York boutique where Hasibuan’s collection is sold.

Launched in 2015, the Anniesa Hasibuan collection first debuted on the runway in London.
