Shoes for Sea Turtles
Philanthropic footwear company TOMS is teaming up with Oceana in support of the Washington D.C. organization’s mission to protect sea turtles and other marine life. According to TOMS, up to 50,000 sea turtles are killed each year (or almost 150 each day) by southeast shrimp trawls. Southern California is an important turtle nesting area, so this is an issue that’s close to home for many of us.
To assist in Oceana’s efforts, TOMS is introducing a limited-edition footwear collection inspired by the sea. Proceeds of the sale of the TOMS x Oceana men’s, women’s and kids’ styles will go directly to Oceana.
Founded in 2001 by a group of foundations—The Pew Charitable Trusts, Oak Foundation, Marisla Foundation (formerly Homeland Foundation) and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund—Oceana works to protect and restore the world’s oceans and is “ dedicated to achieving measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals.”
The shoes will be sold at TOMS stores, select retailers and online at www.toms.com.
