RuPaul’s LASC Dragnet
West Hollywood is a local neighborhood for America’s entertainment industry. High powered TV, film and music executives keep offices in the city – and/or drive through on their way to work. So, it should be no surprise when LASC, which has been selling clothes in West Hollywood since the ‘80s, uses its store windows to make its statement on the entertainment game.
Outrageous costumes from Emmy nominated show RuPaul’s Drag Race, as well likenesses of RuPaul were recently installed in two of the three LASC windows where jeans are typically displayed. Oh Mannequin! & All Things Visual created the new windows.
RuPaul’s Emmy nom made waves since it is the first Emmy nod for the world famous drag queen, this after almost a decade of hosting “reality” show RuPaul’s Drag Race. The show’s costume designer, Zaldy Goco, also was nominated for outstanding costumes Emmy.
Alfredo Izaguirre, GM/buyer for LASC, said that LASC has done windows for friends of the store and sponsors in the past. “It attracts a lot of eyes and people come into the store,” he said. “But they ask if we sell gowns.” The windows are scheduled to stay up until the Emmys broadcast on Sept. 18.
