STUDENT CONTEST

Better Look Sharp, L.A.

It’s like bringing a graphic designer to a knife fight.

Victorinox, the maker of the iconic Swiss Army knife, today kicked off a student contest to redesign the Swiss Army knife handle with inspiration from New York or Los Angeles.

Contestants will vie for a chance to win $5,000 and have their designs sold in select Victorinox Swiss Army stores.

Open to students age 16 and up, the contest lets participants upload imagery to a template on the DesignSAK.com site to create their designs. Entries can be submitted through the end of the month.

A Victorinox Swiss Army panel will select up to 10 top submissions for each city and allow the public to vote for their favorites Oct. 1-8.

“We are thrilled to offer this unique opportunity to students nationwide,” said Dennis Piretra, senior vice president of marketing for Victorinox Swiss Army, North America. “This contest provides a unique medium for emerging talent to showcase their visual and creative point of view on an iconic product such as the Swiss Army Knife.”

The winners—one for each city’s design—will be announced on Oct. 15.

There are already several designs up on the website—with plenty of iconic imagery—the Hollywood sign, the Statue of Liberty—for each city.
