The New Mart's snack bar is being remodeled. A new look and new menu will be created by the owners of L'Express Presto. It is one of the veteran coffee places at the California Market Center.
L’Express Presto To Take Over New Mart Snack Bar
Since 2008, Pang Kang’s snack bar was a fixture at The New Mart, a prominent showroom building in downtown Los Angeles’ Fashion District. But Pang Kang retired in June, and New Mart management announced a new tenant for the 310-square-foot space, which is located in the building’s ornate,1920s era lobby.
The owners of L’Express Presto will open a café at the New Mart’s snack bar. L’Express Presto has served as one of the main coffee shops in the lobby of the California Market Center, which is located adjacent to the New Mart.
Wilfredo Ayala, owner of L’Express Presto, said that his wife Ana will be remodeling the New Mart snack bar. She also will be creating a new menu for the space. He forecasted that the new space would open in November. The Ayala family will continue to operate L’Express Presto.
After Pang Kang retired, New Mart management received hundreds of applications and pitches to remodel the snack bar at New Mart. Some of the pitches were inspired by gourmet and foodie menus, said Ashleigh Kaspszak, a New Mart spokesperson. “We wanted something that would be contemporary, but practical,” she said.
