Before Fly Was Cool
There’s a new fashion documentary opening on Friday focused on the early days of hip-hop fashion.
Sacha Jenkins’ film, “Fresh Dressed,” covers musicians from Damon Dash and Kid 'n' Play to Kayne West and Pharrell Williams, as well as fashion pioneers Dapper Dan and the Shirt Kings.
The Los Angeles Times has more information in a fun interview with Jenkins.
Want more fashion inspiration from the era? I suggest checking “The Breaks 1982-1990,” a book by photographer Janette Beckman, and “Wild Style,” the 1983 film by Charlie Ahearn (or the book he released in 2007 to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary).
