Quiksilver’s Only Female Board Director Exits in Protest
Elizabeth G. Dolan, the sole female director on the board for surf giant Quiksilver Inc., resigned because she had been ignored and left out of important meetings, according to her note, which was reported by Quiksilver on June 3.
“I joined this board with a strong commitment to carrying out the full responsibilities of a director,” Dolan wrote in her note to the Quiksilver board. “By excluding me from crucial board discussions and votes, I have been prevented from fulfilling this role. Indeed, your lack of trust in me has been made clear. On my end, this can’t be rebuilt.”
Dolan currently services as the chief marketing officer at Fox International Channels. According to her LinkedIn profile, she also has helmed marketing for high-profile companies such as Nike Inc. and The Oprah Winfrey Network.
Directors continuing to serve on the Quiksilver board are Bob McKnight, Quiksilver’s founder; Pierre Agnes, the company’s chief executive officer; William M. Barnum, a managing partner of a private-equity firm; Bernd E. Beetz, chairman of St. John’s Knits; Joseph F. Berardino, a management partner of Alvarez & Marsal, a company that consults on turning around companies in distress; Michael A. Clarke, managing director of Treasury Wine Estates, a wine producer in Australia; M. Steven Langman, co-founder of private-equity firm Rhône; and Andrew W. Sweet, a managing director of Rhône.
