Torrid Gets Real
To show off its fall collection, California plus-size retail chain Torrid turned to its customers.
The campaign, dubbed #MyStoryMyTorrid features Torrid customers who wear sizes 12 to 28. The young women were discovered on Instagram. Each were photographed in their hometowns and are featured in the retailer’s Fall catalog, which also tells a little of the young women’s stories.
"Our customers often ask us why we don't show our clothes on 'real girls' as well as professional models, and we've answered," said Torrid Chief Executive Officer Lisa Harper, in a company statement. "It's a powerful thing to turn the camera on them and give them a platform to express themselves. These young women have been ignored by the fashion industry for too long, we want to turn that around."
The company plans to continue to feature customers as models for its Holiday campaign.
