Shark Toof Attacks DTLA

Downtown Los Angeles has been building a reputation as a district for high end boutiques, but DTLA also continues to be an address for ambitious art projects. Recently, the area welcomed a 100 foot wide mural of two fearsome looking sharks by muralist/contemporary/street artist who goes by the name Shark Toof.

Located in the badlands between downtown’s Skid Row and Arts District, the mural’s debut hosted a day-long party on Nov. 16, the mural site, 703 Kohler St., complete with a mini-gallery of Shark Toof’s instantly recognizable art, often a toothy shark bursting through waves, DJs, and being downtown L.A., artisanal coffee, this one by Two Falcons coffee roasters.

Shark Toof and Superchief Gallery ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the mural and fund its preservation and maintenance. The two started another website to continue funding the maintenance of the site. Art fans can get Shark Toof tees and treats at the site. Shark Toof’s next mural is scheduled to be painted in Miami for the Art Basel show during the first week of December.
