A Coffee Bar Grows in DTLA
Frothy coffee drinks, big band jazz from the 1940s, a meeting place for the Fashion District.
These were all elements that fashion company LATS wanted to bring to its new neighborhood. This week, the company officially debuted The Classic Coffee Bar, a café located at 862 S. Main St., on the corner of S. Main St. and E. 9th St. in downtown Los Angeles. Big band is on the sound system and the baristas wear bow ties to serve Intelligentsia coffee and drinks such as The Fashionista; it mixes a double shot of espresso, ice, milk and simple syrup, then it is shaken like a cocktail.
The Classic is on the ground floor of the building that the company refurbished. The building is called Los Angeles Times Square or L.A.T.S. Company executives hope it will be a place of business, a cultural center and a hang-out for the Fashion District.
On the second floor, there’s a spacious showroom for a fashion basics line, also called LATS. The building is a work in progress. In the basement, an art gallery is planned to be built. On the roof, there are plans to build a garden lounge where independent movies will be screened.
