EXECUTIVE MOVES
New CEO at Not Your Daughter’s Jeans
With a new owner comes a new chief executive.
On Jan. 7, Robert C. Skinner Jr. was appointed the new CEO of Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, a blue-jeans company now called NYDJ and based in Vernon, Calif.
The appointment comes after Crestview Partners in New York and Maybrook Capital Partners in Los Angeles completed their $385 million acquisition on Jan. 6 of the apparel company from Falconhead Capital and the Rudes-Sandel family.
NYDJ, which sold for seven times EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) had revenues of approximately $200 million in 2013.
Skinner will be based out of the company’s Vernon headquarters. "In a relatively short period of time, NYDJ has created a passionate following with style-conscious women over 35 years of age in the slimming-jean market,” he said in a statement. “I am excited to be part of the NYDJ team and to capitalize on the numerous opportunities the brand has for continued growth."
Prior to joining NYDJ, Skinner was the chief executive at Smart Apparel U.S. and managing director of Smart Shirts Hong Kong. Before Smart, he was the chairman, president and chief executive of Kellwood Co., which he joined in 2000 as president of menswear.
Skinner began his career with Oxford Industries, where, during his 24-year career, he rose to corporate vice president and president of the Oxford Shirt Group.
Skinner joins Mackey McDonald, former chairman and CEO of VF Corp., who is the new chairman of the company.
NYDJ was founded in 2003 by Lisa Rudes-Sandel and her father, George Rudes, who now lives principally in Boca Raton, Fla. They are keeping a small percentage of the company.
Lisa got the idea for NYDJ after shopping for a pair of stylish jeans in a high-end department store and not finding anything to fit her over-35-year-old figure. Nordstrom is the brand’s No. 1 customer.
