Express on a New Retail Venture
Express has been in the retail business for more than 30 years. But during all those decades, nary a factory outlet store in sight.
But the company with 630 stores around the country is changing that. It opened its first outlet store outside of Washington, D.C., last week in Tanger Outlets National Harbor. And another 29 are set to debut later this year.
In California, two new factory outlet stores will open on May 1. One will be in Southern California, at Ontario Mills in Ontario, and a second will be in northern California at the Great Mall in Milpitas. Other locations this year will be in Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Las Vegas and New York.
Express markets its merchandise to men and women in their 20s and 30s. The company felt the new outlet malls would give its cost-conscious consumers a little more bang for their buck.
"Factory outlets are an important growth initiative for Express, offering us a unique opportunity to acquire new customers by offering great fashion and quality at an amazing value," said Andrew Buck, Express's vice president and general manager.
