Octavio Carlin's Spring/Summer 2014: From Gatsby to Brides
There’s no such thing as goodbye to some styles.
The 1950s’ era pompadour keeps coming back. Stevie Nicks’ bohemian look seems to get updated for every new generation. The world also never seems to get tired of Great Gatsby looks. Veteran LA designer Octavio Carlin laced some Jazz Age silhouettes into his Spring/Summer 2014 styles which he showed Oct. 14 at Style Fashion Week.
“I always was inspired by the 1920s,” Carlin said. “I just stay away from the flappers.”
With this collection, Carlin used silhouettes of long fitted dresses, flowey frocks and a combination of both styles. The silhouettes acted as canvasses for prints on many of the 33 looks at the show. The first look was a red cotton floral print with a pleated crepe de chine details. Another look was a chartreuse floral print on a one shoulder dress, which also featured purple lining and a blue trim.
Carlin ended the show with bridal gowns. One gown featured a deep U-shaped back. Carlin’s Angel gown was the valedictory piece. It was a white silk chiffon bridal dress.
