To hear Inka Sherman talk about the Spring 2014 line of her ISM Mode label, the new line is something of a Zen riddle.
“It has shape and it’s shapeless…It’s a mix of geometric and flowy,” she said after her presentation of the 14 look line at the Los Angeles Fashion Council shows Oct. 9 at The Grove retail center.
Sherman used jersey material, micro modal and Tencel to create the jumpers, dresses, skirts and tops in this line. Some of the garments had a denim wash look, others had marled yarn style. Sherman also hoped to use fashion inspirations from the 1920s to 1960s in her clothes, which are made in Los Angeles and offer an eco-edge. One dress, for example, bore a silhouette similar to a flapper dress. One skirt was reminiscent of a 1950s style hoop skirt.
To make her inspirations timeless, different elements such as kangaroo pockets were featured.
