Sure, Prada is all over The Great Gatsby, the much ballyhooed film which opens on May 10, but the iconic fashion house does not have a corner on styles from the influential Jazz era novel.

Designer Nathalie Seaver recently put up a Gatsby dress in the window of her Nathalie Seaver boutique at 8360 West 3rd St., in Los Angeles. She started her design career doing dresses inspired by 1920s and 1930s looks. Her Gatsby silk flapper dress is meant for a wide release.

It drew attention immediately when she posted it on May 4, Seaver said. “It’s the typical 1920s style,” she said of the sleeveless dress with flouncy ruffles, which retails for $198. It should bring smiles to Los Angeles fashionistas for another reason. “It’s extremely retro,” Seaver said.

Robert Talbott Inc., a luxury clothier headquartered in Monterey, Calif., also recently unveiled The Gatsby Collection, a group of bow ties, neckties, shirts and vests inspired by the novel and Gatsby writer F. Scott Fitzgerald, who arguably wrote that elusive creature, the Great American Novel.
