DFS Group, Westfield Bow New Retail Space at LA International Airport
Shopping-mall developer Westfield and duty-free retailer DFS Group recently previewed a first look at the renovations underway at the Tom Bradley International Terminal at the Los Angeles International Airport, which include new retail and dining spaces.
Set for completion later this year, the renovations include the 150,000-square-foot, multi-level Great Hall, with 36 stores, including 27 boutiques that are new to the terminal. Curated by Westfield, the retail space includes local boutiques and brands such as Kitson, Fred Segal and Hudson, as well as national and international brands such as Coach, Michael Kors and Bulgari. The restaurants are also local, including Border Grill, Umani Burger, Chaya and Luckyfish by Sushi Roku.
The Board of Airport Commissioners has opted to name the Great Hall the Antonio R. Villaraigosa Pavilion in honor of the outgoing mayor, who leaves office on June 30.
“Westfield is excited to bring our global resources and experience in creating iconic shopping destinations to transform LAX, starting right here in the new Tom Bradley International Terminal—our global gateway,” said Peter S. Lowy, co-chief executive officer of the Westfield Group, in a statement. “We have leveraged Westfield’s award-winning design capabilities with the best local brands to completely transform the airport experience into the LAX travelers have dreamed of—and the LAX they deserve.”
The space represents a $79.8 million investment by Westfield.
DFS, a longtime retailer at the airport, invested $25 million in its new location at the Tom Bradley International Terminal, which will also feature a mix of duty-free local and luxury brands, including Smashbox, Hublot, Bottega Veneta, Hermès, Gucci, Burberry and Salvatore Ferragamo. There will also be an LA-themed spirits-tasting bar within DFS that will feature “iconic cocktails and other drinks that capture the spirit and energy of Los Angeles,” as well as wines from Southern California wineries San Antonio Winery, Malibu Family Wines, Rosenthal Estate Wineries and Moraga Estate Vineyards.
“After more than 30 years here in Los Angeles, we are very excited and proud to play our part in furthering the evolution of the world traveler’s retail experience at LAX,” said Philippe Schaus, DFS chairman and chief executive officer. “Los Angeles, where we opened our first airport operation on the American mainland, has always been important to DFS’ heritage. We look forward to continuing this journey with our partner, Westfield, as we revitalize airport retail at LAX and deliver a lineup of luxury brands as never before been experienced in Los Angeles.”
