Lagerfeld Takes La Jolla Fashion Film Festival
Parties for the 2013 La Jolla Fashion Film Festival start tonight, and the event will be a must for Karl Lagerfeld fans and aficionados of the burgeoning art of fashion film. In a past interview, Fred Sweet, the festival producer, said fashion films are not commercials, rather they are the cinema version of magazine editorials, and they evoke the spirit and sensibility of a designer and a brand, with no direct pitch for commerce.
A Karl Lagerfeld film retrospective will screen Friday at the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego’s exclusive La Jolla section. Filmmakers who make short films about fashion such as Bruce Weber, Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri and Eytan Rockaway also will screen their latest around the dolce vita taking place at the festival. It ends July 27 with a gala awards show.
