Restoration Hardware to Rev Up Apparel Line
Gary Friedman is back in the driver's seat at Restoration Hardware.
The retail executive had to step aside less than a year ago after the board found he had an inappropriate relationship with a former employee. He was given the title of chairman emeritus, creator and curator. Carlos Alberini, who for years was the president and chief operating officer at Guess Inc., took over as chief executive.
Now Alberini and Friedman are sharing the CEO slot. In addition, Restoration Hardware has acquired the exclusive right to develop Friedman's new venture, Hierarchy, a clothing and accessories line.
The home furnishings chain has decided to rebrand Hierarchy as RH Atelier, a curated, artisan-crafted luxury apparel, footwear and accessories brand. RH Atelier will be headquartered in New York with a satellite office in Restoration Hardware's corporate headquarters in Corte Madera, Calif.
