Patagonia Sets Up Recycling Section in Some Stores
Here's a way to get rid of your old clothes and buy new ones at the same time.
Patagonia has launched a new program called Common Threads Worn Wear in eight of its stores across the country. In California, it is being incorporated into its Palo Alto store.
The idea is that customers can bring in their "gently-used" Patagonia clothing for resale and earn credits on new clothing. When the program starts in late September, the stores will be accepting used Patagonia shells, fleece, down and synthetic insulation and ski and alpine pants. Items must be clean and in good condition.
Customer get a trade-in credit valued at 50 percent of the item's price when it is sold through the store's Common Threads Worn Wear section, which will be incorporated in Patagonia stores in Seattle, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Denver, Reno, Nev., Austin, Texas., and Portland, Ore.
Patagonia, based in Ventura, Calif., did an experimental program in its Portland store in Oregon last fall. Obviously, it was successful.
