TRADE SHOWS

Buzzing Booths at WWIN

LAS VEGAS—Women’s Wear in Nevada at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino was once again bustling with buyers lined up in the booths, placing orders for updated, resort and plus-size apparel as well as accessories.

“We were busy. I can’t complain,” said Margaret Cox, who represents several brands, including Lindy by Aria CollectionInsight and Mycra Pak. “We were selling Immediates and Fall,” she said.

Lindy’s Wayne Quian said he was happy with the turnout at WWIN, which included many of Lindy’s Canadian customers, but he said traffic has yet to rebound to the levels of four years ago. Quian was also showing a new upscale fur outerwear collection, called Neo Noble, at Stitch at The Venetian

Industry veteran Ron Perilman was showing his new collection, Liverpool jeans, at WWIN for the second season.

Launched about a year ago, the line is already carried in Bloomingdale’sLord & TaylorNordstromDillard’s, Neiman Marcus online and Amazon.com, which dropped by on the third day of the Feb. 18–21 show.

Perilman described Liverpool’s customer as the “new modern missy.” “She’s a little more hip, she wants a little lower rise, and she’s looking for bargain,” he said.

Most Liverpool jeans are wholesale priced at $29 and retail for $79.

Perilman said the Liverpool customer has worn premium-denim brands. “She sees the value for $79,” he said.

The only item in the line priced higher is a Cupro denim that retails for $89.

Last season, Perilman said, the company ran out of order forms at WWIN and had to go to the 24-hour Kinkos to print more. This season, the company prepared for trade show traffic and reorder business.

“We had 60 stores in an hour and a half on Monday,” Perilman  said, estimating that about 75 percent of the orders were for Immediate goods.

“I took a big position so I can fill orders,” he said. “I’m not afraid to step out and have inventory in season."
