FASHION FUND-RAISER
Divine Inspiration Needed for Long Beach Fashion Fund-Raiser
Got a head for blasphemy and the heart of a seamstress? This fund-raiser is for you.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence issued a call for an Oct. 12 runway event, design challenge and fund-raiser called Project Nunway LA.
Specifically, they are looking for something that “embodies queer energy, celebrates nuns, basks in beauty while dancing on the fringes.” Oh, and it should be made with little to no cash.
The Sisters have teamed up with the Orange County Shanti and the Long Beach AIDS foundation to host event, which will be held at MADHaus in Long Beach.
The top designer will be awarded $500 to be donated to the charity of his or her choice, according to the Long Beach Post, which has additional information about the event. There is also a scholarship component to the event.
According to the Project Nunway LA website, the event is the brainchild of Sister Baba Ganesh and inspired by Federico Fellini’s 1972 film “Roma”—as well as fashion reality show “Project Runway.”
Project Nunway was previously held in San Francisco, where these fantastic photos by Drew Altizer were taken. The San Francisco Chronicle’s SFGate site has a slideshow with many more.
The event is open to the public. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $55 for VIP access. For more information, visit www.projectnunwayla.com.
