ColorZen Hires Cotton Expert for Education Outreach
ColorZen LLC has hired cotton specialist Nick Hahn to oversee education efforts about ColorZen’s cotton-treatment process, which results in less water, energy and dye usage than traditional methods.
ColorZen employs a chemical process to pre-treat cotton fibers. ColorZen fibers use 90 percent less water, 70 percent less energy and 95 percent fewer chemicals, according to the company. In addition, ColorZen touts a shorter dye cycle, which reduces energy costs and increases capacity.
Hahn spent 19 years as president and chief executive officer of Cotton Inc., the nonprofit organization founded to promote U.S. cotton farmers and cotton products. He left in 1997 to establish his own global consultancy, focusing on supply-chain management and industry competitiveness solutions in developing countries. Hahn International Ltd. worked with international textile programs such as the EAF Conservation Cotton Initiative in Uganda, Pure Brazil Cotton Council, Pakistan Cotton Competitiveness Board, the Kazakhstan Cotton Grading Initiative, the Thai Silk Industry Board and the New Zealand Wool Board.
Most recently, he served as president and chief executive officer of Alpaca United L3C, a fiber company representing North American Alpaca farmers and processors.
“Nick’s enormous depth and understanding of both the textile and the sustainability marketplace will greatly benefit ColorZen LLC as we reach out to brands and manufacturers to show them the benefits of incorporating ColorZen technology into the cotton-dyeing process,” said Michael Harari, president and co-founder of ColorZen LLC.—Alison A.
