It’s the beginning of the dirty 30s for the event Macy’s Passport PresentsGlamorama, which held a 30th anniversary party Sept. 7 at the ornate Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.
For the 30th time, Macy’s produced a revue of hit-making musical acts and fashion shows for the good cause of raising funds for non-profits giving comfort to those living with HIV/AIDS; AIDS Project Los Angeles and Project Angel Food.
The theme of the event was ’ The British Invasion: The Music Then. The Fashion Now!’ Naturally music was important. Blue-eyed soul singer Robin Thicke performed at Glamorama. He got the ultimate ego booster of having the crowd enthusiastically sing choruses and verses of his hit songs back to him. Pop troubadours Karmin and Megan Liz also performed and were ardently received.
The audience got a preview of capsule collection Nicole Richie for Impulse, as well as latest looks from the labels Tommy Hilfiger, Walter Baker, Tallia Orange, Material Girl, bar III, Sean John, RACHEL Rachel Roy, Calvin Klein and Diesel.
Macy’s Chairman Terry J. Lungren and Academy Award nominated actress Sharon Stone gave tribute to those who have spent long years in researching a cure to AIDS and caring for those living with the disease. “We are at the beginning of the end of the AIDS crisis,” Stone told the crowd. “We need your continued good will and your continued effort.”
After the event, the crowd walked a few blocks to the California Market Center for British Invasion themed party.Indian Tandoori food was served along with California versions of British pub food such as braised beef sliders. No one inquired about traditional British pub dishes such as bangers and mash, mushy peas or eel pie. Here’s a look at the show and a few of the revelers.
