LA Fashion Week Spring 2013: Belle N. Matisse

Belle N. Matisse debuted its Spring ’13 collection with a presentation at Concept Fashion Week LA on Oct. 13. The installation, which featured six looks, was held on a sound stage at Siren Studios in Hollywood. The concept of the collection is a balance between a city girl and artsy girl, explained designer Alexandria Norman, whose ideal woman comes in a variety of forms. “So you will see New York City with the pointed shoulder blazer and then you will see an artsy girl with the baggy, masculine trouser pant. So it’s kind of this ideal woman,” she said. The

Fall/Winter collection featured dramatic editorial pieces, and for Spring/Summer, Norman said she wanted to show the opposite. “I want to be able to show people the other side, the more feminine, but masculine and outfits together,” she explained. Fabrics came in twill, double knit, leather and silk. Styling was Silver Lake hipster complete with the requisite black cowboy hat. Standouts included a striking white short suit, a black leather jacket paired with a long skirt and retro briefs paired with a silk blouse.—N. Jayne Seward
