Uniqlo Opens S.F. Store
A highly anticipated Uniqlo store opened in San Francisco’s exclusive Union Square neighborhood on Oct. 5.
Located at 111 Powell St., the three-story, 29,000-square-foot emporium features high-beamed ceilings, a large basement, a skylight, and a platform where more than 91 mannequins wearing Uniqlo fashions will rotate.
The Japanese-headquartered fast-fashion store also will debut its “Magic Mirror” virtual dressing room in the San Francisco store. In this virtual dressing room, Uniqlo customers will be able to view images of themselves wearing store product on a monitor that shows images in vivid detail. Yasunobu Kyogoku, Uniqlo USA’schief operating officer, said San Francisco was a natural choice for introducing this virtual dressing room. “San Francisco is the center of global innovation, and we are delighted to join this vibrant community,” he said.
San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said the new store will create 500 jobs in San Francisco.
Uniqlo is a division of Fast Retailing Co. There are 1,100 Uniqlo brands around the world. The San Francisco store is Uniqlo’s fifth U.S. location. There are three Uniqlo stores in Manhattan, and one opened in Paramus, N.J., on Sept. 28.—Andrew Asch
