LA Fashion Week Spring 2013: martinMARTIN
“Structure and Anti-Structure” was the theme for martinMARTIN’s Spring ’13 collection. Designed by husband-and-wife design duo Eric and Diane Martin, the philosophy for the collection is always evolutionary rather than revolutionary.This season, the pair continued to evolve their style defined as “wearable avant-garde” by exploring the idea of structure. The idea of traditional style was challenged as soft fabrics and draping met architecturally inspired shapes. Paradoxical concepts such as masculine meets feminine and soft meets hard elements expanded on the theme. Soft jersey and silk organza morphed into draped tees and dresses, delicate hand-formed flowers cascaded on long chiffon gowns, and sharp tailoring referenced Edwardian-era styling.—N. Jayne Seward
