Woodbury University’s Modern Mix
Downtown L.A.’s Millennium Biltmore Hotel was a fashionable place to be when students, faculty, sponsors and members of the fashion community turned out for Woodbury University’s 48th Annual Fashion Show Benefit on April 28. Guests mixed and mingled at a cocktail party and sampled hors d’oeuvres while bidding for items from a silent auction. Acclaimed writer Patt Morrison served as mistress of ceremonies and welcomed guests and sponsors to the event. Woodbury University President Dr. Kenneth R. Nielsen and Dr. Edward Clift awarded Nic Adler the School of Media, Culture & Design Impact Award. Adler, who owns The Roxy, was presented the award for his cutting-edge social-media expertise. Other honorees included Adriana Penich, who received the Merit Award; Ruth Smith, who received the Vanguard Award; and Erica Rodriguez, who received the Concept Award.
The show held up to its theme, “A Creative Mash-Up of Music and Fashion,” showcasing everything from streamlined swimwear and activewear to urban streetwear as well as costume design. Under the tutelage of Kathryn Hagen, the university’s new fashion chair, and designer and senior mentor Eduardo Lucero, the senior class turned out some impressive designs. Inspiration stemmed from music and the artists and audience that surround each particular genre. The result was collections ranging from the moody soundtracks of the Italian cinema to romantic tangos and ’60s rock ’n’ roll.—N. Jayne Seward
