Sanrio Names First Female Chief Operating Officer
Sanrio Co. Ltd., the Japanese makers of Hello Kitty, has named Janet Hsu as chief operating officer of its U.S. subsidiary, Sanrio Inc.
Hsu, who previously was president of the U.S. subsidiary, headquartered in Torrance, Calif., becomes the first female chief operating officer in the Japanese company’s 52-year history.
As COO, Hsu is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day business operations as the company continues to push its international business. She will launch and oversee licensing programs, strategic partnerships and unique storytelling opportunities to strengthen the brand.
She will also broaden her role in growing retail outlets, e-commerce, warehouse operations, business administration and accounting.
“The foundation of Sanrio’s strengths and appeal lies within its small-gift, big-smile philosophy,” Hsu said. “As our brands continue to grow and reach new consumer segments, our strategy will remain connected to this original message of delivering happiness and positive experiences in everything we do.”
Hsu’s 20 years of experience includes working at Bloomingdale’s, Lord & Taylor, Mattel and MGA Entertainment prior to joining Sanrio.—Deborah Belgum
