Mosaic Celebrates Fashion and Hope
The faith-based community group Mosaic hosted a runway show and fund-raiser for Habitat for Humanity as part of its Fashion4Habitat event on March 17 for Los Angeles Fashion Week.
The show was held in a loft in the Downtown Arts District, featuring live music, a food truck and 14 young designers. This is the fourth year Mosaic has hosted a fashion function.
The evening kicked off with an experimental design showcase, featuring 12 designers taking inspiration from some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Hollywood Bowl, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, City Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Santa Monica Pier and the Watts Towers, among others.
The designers included Brady Paul, David Phongsa, Laverne Delgado, Mary Lenore Peralta, Meagan Tobin, Shannon Russell, Melanie Trygg, Octavius Terry, Oscar Lopez, Paige Fellers, Rey Aquino and Tennille Rogers, who showed 24 pieces, ranging from silver sequined dresses and urban trench coats to ruffled minis and checkered knickers.
The showcase was followed by two emerging designers—Dana Arnold of Fruition and Jaylse Hanna of Common Currency—who showed five looks ranging from floral and feminine dresses to Fall blouses and blazers in bronze and olive green.
Host Christa Scholtz said the event gives the community a chance to celebrate fashion as an artistic expression of spirituality and that she was glad that so many people had come out to support Habitat for Humanity and Mosaic.—Deidre Crawford
