Belle N. Matisse

Black was the predominant color for the Belle N. Matisse collection, shown at a March 10 installation at Concept L.A. Fashion Week at Ace Gallery.

Designer Alexandria “Belle” Norman’s creations were heavy on geometric silhouettes with a few pieces that had peaked shoulders and knees that ended in sharp points.

Norman used luxurious fabrics such as Italian knits and custom-dyed ribbing to fashion sophisticated cargo pants with skinny legs, knee-length shorts, mesh shirts and a top with sleeves that bulged out like butterfly cages.

She was looking toward the future with her pointy-shouldered black dress whose hem was shorter in the front than in back. A pair of pants with pointed knees rounded out the collection.—Deborah Belgum
