Furne One
Red-carpet looks are the domain of Dubai-based designer Furne One, but for his March 15 presentation of Furne One Presents Amato at Style Fashion Week LA, Furne One stepped into science fiction.
Models wore elaborate headdresses and shoulder back pieces that made them look like robots from an early-20th-century movie—but with an avant-garde twist. The headdresses and back pieces were accessorized by light bulbs, forks and what looked like shiny junk from an e-waste dump.
But Furne One’s mechanical world also embraced nature. Some back pieces were covered by butterfly appliques. A 60-pound cloak jacket featured built-in wings. The machines’ butterfly obsession did not stop with appliques. The sheer fabric, Swarovski crystals, and some of the stitching used in the line’s cocktail dresses and gowns were reminiscent of the wings of butterflies and dragonflies.—Andrew Asch
