Nami at Concept L.A.

The Fall 2012 collection for Nami could be parsed by its influences, said its designer, Sarah Nami Ahn, who showed her latest collection at Concept L.A. at Ace Gallery Los Angeles on March 10.

The arch-like cutouts on the back of Nami’s “Royce” dress were inspired by the arches at Royce Hall at University of California, Los Angeles. The intricate lace work on many of Nami’s dresses was inspired by the complex architecture of the Taj Mahal and the surrounding city of Agra, India.

Nami also mixed influences of modest, ankle-length Victorian-era women’s dresses, along with crushed velvet bell pants. Materials crepe de chine, chiffon and bouclé were used the creation of these garments, intended to give the wearer a tall, lean look like a graceful building.—Andrew Asch
