Première Vision’s Forecast for Spring/Summer ’13

PARIS—Première Vision is to textile professionals what Paris is to fashion: a trends capital where the colors and materials of a whole season are decided 18 months in advance.

This season, 24 more exhibitors were added to the trade event’s listings in an effort to diversify the show’s offerings. Further spaces were also added, including yarn platform Newlife’s Eco-Innovation library, a new concept space showcasing real, best-practice examples in creativity, innovation and commercial-viability textiles.

All-over prints that culminate in a central scene create an area of focus on simple cotton fabrications for Spring/Summer ’13. The scenic prints make reference to classic painting techniques with photographic floral designs providing a more contemporary option. Light cottons and silks look as though pressed flowers have been placed upon them, while photographic floral images are distorted in size, creating a bold abstract effect. Meanwhile, rich prints appear as though they are subject to heavy saturation. As patterns become less defined, an abstract element ensues, creating contemporary versions of classic print designs.

Heavily embellished fabrics showcase a mixture of sequins and beads applied over prints or in three-dimensional structures for maximum visual impact that is strengthened by brightly colored hues. Open-network structures are modernized with bold geometric repeats that challenge conventional lace with chunky laser-cut repeats. Oversized stitching also provides an innovative look.
