Topshop: Taking It Slow

New York, Chicago, even Las Vegas, got UK retailer Topshop locations before Los Angeles. It doesn’t mean that the much vaunted Topshop was not thinking about L.A. Topshop creative directors just wanted to take it slow…and get to know us.
Topshop will move into The Grove retail center around Spring 2013. Before The Grove debut, the retailer might open a pop-up shop to get a feel for the city - and what us hard-to-understand Angelenos really want. At least that was the word at a Topshop mixer at the swank Soho House club in West Hollywood on June 26.
Topshop’s brother store Topman will have a presence at The Grove too said Gordon Richardson, Topman’s design director. The retailer intends to be a good guest in L.A. Richardson said. “We’re not here to shake things up. We’re not egotistical. I’d like people to see how good we are from a fashion point of view,” Richardson said.
Topshop is up for finding out more about L.A., and in turn, L.A. will find out more about Topshop said Kate Phelan, the retailer’s creative director. “It’s where people star experimenting with style,” Phelan said of her store.
