Philippe Bertrand, Trend Forecaster, 53
Philippe Paul Camille Bertrand, a French trend forecaster who presented textile and fashion trend seminars in Los Angeles and around the world, died after a battle with renal cell carcinoma. He was 53.
Bertrand, whose seminars were given at the California Market Center in Los Angeles and the Los Angeles International Textile Show, died July 7 at Epiworth Richmond Hospital in Australia. He had recently moved to that country to work as a trend and forecast design manager for Target Australia.
Philippe was born in Lyon, France, on Aug. 24, 1958, to Robert and Josette Larget-Bertrand.
He moved to New York in 1978 and later started a trend-forecasting service called Here and There. That eventually morphed into his own company, Fashion Dossier, which he ran from 1987 to 2004.
Bertrand moved back to France in 2004 to take over the restaurant La Mère Brazier. In 2008, he joined his ex-wife, Pascale Henault-Bertrand, as marketing director for Woolworks International. In 2011, he started his new venture in Australia with Target.
“He had a bigger-than-life personality. He was very bright and was lots of fun,” said Patricia Brandt, whose Patricia Brandt Co. in Los Angeles has represented Pantone for more than 20 years. “He had a really good vision for fashion and was very personable. Everybody liked him so much.”
Bertrand is survived by his father, Robert; ex-wife Pascale Hernault-Bertrand; daughter Aggie Bertrand; and partner Luke Peters.
A memorial service is scheduled July 26 from 6 to 10 p.m. at L’Escale restaurant in Greenwich, Conn. For more information, visit www.goodbyephilippe.com.—Deborah Belgum
