Owner of ATS, Moda, Fame to Host Show-in-Show in Brazil
Norwalk, Conn.–based BJI Fashion Group—producers of the AccessoriesTheShow, Moda, Fame and MRket trade shows—will take a curated group of about 50 contemporary women’s and accessories brands to Brazil with the launch of BJI at Couromoda and São Paulo Prêt-à-Porter fashion week in January.
The “show within a show” is being produced as a joint venture between the BJI Fashion Group and Reed Exhibitions Alcantara Machado, organizer of more than 30 trade events in Brazil covering a wide range of industries, including beauty, textiles, manufacturing, automotive, electronics, engineering and agricultural technology.
With the next run set for Jan. 13–16, São Paulo Prêt-à-Porter fashion week features more than 500 apparel and accessories collections and draws more than 20,000 attendees. Held concurrently, the Couromoda shoe and leather-goods fair features more than 3,000 collections and draws an international audience of 85,000 from 60 countries.
“Co-locating with São Paulo Prêt-à-Porter represents an enormous opportunity for international contemporary collections wishing to expand into the massive and rapidly growing Brazilian and Latin American markets, which are already the sixth-largest in the world,” said Britton Jones, president and chief executive officer of BJI.
The Brazilian market is “largely untapped” by American brands and represents a “dynamic opportunity” for international contemporary collections, Jones added. For the launch, BJI will showcase approximately 50 ready-to-wear and accessories brands at Couromoda and São Paulo Prêt-à-Porter.
“The potential in both Brazil and all of Latin America is huge, and São Paulo will continue to consolidate its position as the region’s leading fashion capital,” said Francisco Santos, chief executive officer of Couromoda and São Paulo Prêt-à-Porter. “The combined strength of these shows makes for the perfect venue for BJI Fashion Group to launch AccessoriesTheShow, Moda and Fame in Brazil. We are extremely excited to have them and believe that their brands will be well-received by our retail market.”
BJI is looking to take domestic and international contemporary brands that are appropriate for the Brazilian market. Later this year, the company will host an informational seminar in New York to help exhibitors understand the requirements of exporting to Brazil.
