MRket, ModaLV, ATS Bustling
LAS VEGAS—The trade show floor was bustling at MRket trade show, said Don Kerkes, president of the men’s group of Tommy Bahama. The show focused on sportswear and formal men’s fashions at its Aug. 21–23 run at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. It ran concurrently with sister shows ModaLV, which specializes in upscale womenswear, and Accessories The Show, which features accessories. All three shows are organized by Business Journals Inc.“This is the best-attended trade show,” Kerkes said. “We have not had a seat available.”
Tommy Bahama mostly served specialty shops at the trade show, including Lapels in Pittsburgh; Newport Drygoods in Port Clinton, Ohio; and Cabona’s in Truckee, Calif.
Murray Roffe, president of New York–based Roffe Accessories Inc., said his booth was busy throughout the show with many retailers seeking to place orders for the upcoming Holiday season.
For trends in men’s suits and shirting, silhouettes are trending toward classic cuts, said Anders Hjärne of Eton of Sweden, but menswear designers are placing in more details for more idiosyncratic looks. “There are more details, and colors are more vibrant,” he said.
For Jane Mohr of Los Angeles’ Dress to Kill line, the ModaLV show was becoming one of the most important shows on her sales calendar.Besides the big Spring and Fall Los Angeles Fashion Markets, she said, ModaLV was where she wrote some of her biggest orders.
Sales representative Dvora Braunstein said business was fast-paced at ModaLV, and the specialty stores that shopped the show ordered for Spring. She represents lines such as Avivit Yizhar.—Andrew Asch
