Gerber Technology Launches New Precision Spreading System
Thetechnology solutions provider Gerber Technology has announced theavailability of its newprecision spreading system, the GERBERspreader 250s. The new machine accommodates materialrolls weighing up to 550 pounds andspreads at speeds of up to 100 meters per minutewithout tension. It also provides precision selvageand end alignment technology that maximizes materialutilization.
Thesystem is targeted toward apparel manufacturers cuttingheavy fabrics and operators workingwith bulky materials.
“Thisaddition to our GERBERspreader line enablesapparel manufacturers cutting denim, corduroyor knits to spread from very heavy rolls,”Ron Ellis, product manager for Gerber Technology, said in a company statement. “It alsoenables makers of automotive interiors and transportseating to spread foam laminate materials fromvery bulky rolls using an extra-large cradlethat can accommodate rolls up to 47 inches indiameter.”
Thespreader comes in multiple widths and maximizesmaterial utilization by using adjustable infraredphotocells that ensure accurate selvage alignment,as well as precision end alignment technologythat eliminates material end loss. The system also reports the amount of material usedfrom a roll, as well as the amount lost todefects or flaws.
Thespreader was built to address worker safety andergonomics issues and includes a cradle feedsystem equipped with an electric cradle tiltfor faster, more manageable loading and unloading andthreading and rewinding of material rolls. An optional loading system also lifts heavy fabricrolls from the floor to the spreader cradle andvice versa.
“Throughoutour 45-year history, customers havecome to rely on Gerber to provide a total cutting-roomsolution that includes spreading tables, advanced spreading systems and computer- controlledcutting systems,” Ellis stated. “This newestspreading system is the ideal addition to oursuite of solutions because it is not only fast, preciseand ergonomically sound, it also delivers significantlyimproved material utilization.”
GerberTechnology provides hardware and softwaresystems to automate and manage the productdesign and manufacturing process for customersin the aerospace, apparel, retail, composites, packaging, furniture, technical textiles andtransportation-interiors industries.
