Movie star, fashion icon and humanitarian - Elizabeth Taylor is a legend. And so is “The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor." Christie's has announced that Los Angeles will be the first U.S. stop on a global tour featuring highlights from the glamorous star’s highly covetable collection.
Haute couture, costumes, film memorabilia, fine art and jewelry – Taylor was a vast collector. Think over five decades of museum-quality one-of-a-kind couture by Chanel, Givenchy, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino and Versace to “The Crown Jewels of Hollywood,” her jewelry collection which contains the stunning 33.19 carat Elizabeth Taylor Diamond.
Taylor was a leading lady in every sense of the word. She often worked directly with designers to create the looks that she wore both on and off-screen. And there were many occasions – from glamorous parties to award shows, AIDS benefits and jet setting international locales - the collection includes over 400 items of one-of-a-kind couture gowns, ready-to-wear, shoes, hats and accessories.
Clearly, Angelenos are in luck. In recognition of Taylor’s many friends and fans, Christie’s is providing an extended, four-day viewing of the collection in Los Angeles, Taylor’s home for the majority of her professional career. The collection will be on display from Oct. 13 to 16 at the MOCA Pacific Design Center. It’s the third stop on a three-month international tour which includes Moscow, London, Dubai, Geneva, Paris, Hong Kong and New York.
Following the tour, the complete collection will be offered for sale from Dec. 13 to 16 at Christie’s in New York. A portion of the profits generated by admissions, events and publications related to the exhibitions will be donated to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation which helps assist people throughout the world living with HIV and AIDS.
Tickets will go on sale for the Los Angeles exhibition at 9:00 am PST tomorrow, September 22, and can be purchased at www.christies.com/elizabethtaylor.
