Rodeo Drive Names Walk of Style Winners
Italian fashion house Missoni and supermodel Iman were named the winners of the 2011 Rodeo Drive Walk of Style.
Iman and Angela Missoni, the fashion house's creative director, will accept the awards during an Oct. 23 ceremony on the high-profile fashion street in Beverly Hills.
The honorees also will receive statuettes resembling The Torso, the landmark statue standing at the intersection of Rodeo Drive and Brighton Way. In addition, plaques will be embedded in Rodeo Drive’s sidewalk, adjacent to the plaques of previous Walk of Style recipients, including Tom Ford, Mario Testino, James Galanos, Gianni and Donatella Versace, and Fred Hayman, who is considered the father of Rodeo Drive fashion retail.
From Oct. 20 to Nov. 3, the honorees will be celebrated with a banner exhibition on the shopping street. Banners featuring famous photographs of Iman and Missoni’s signature patterns and vibrant colors will be posted for two weeks.
quot;Missoni is one of the symbols of Italian luxury,” said Peri Ellen Berne, chairwoman of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style. In 2010, Missoni debuted a flagship store at 469 N. Rodeo Drive.
The Walk of Style award is the latest honor for the Somalia-born Iman.In 2010, the Council of Fashion Designers of America awarded the supermodel with its “Fashion Icon Award.” Glamour named her its 2006 “Woman of the Year” for her AIDS activism.
